The Animals' Christmas

Cattle low, roosters crow, sheep bleat, and pigeons coo, But on the morn our Lord was born They spoke as people do. Donkey's bray, horses neigh, But in that lowlyshed the creatures spoke like human folk Round his bed. For one bright hour was given power To every being there To rejoice with humna voice, To see that child so fair. Cogs bow-wow, Cats meow, The mouse can only squeak, But great or small, they all recall That long ago time in a cattle stall When the animals could speak.
